Today Google have released beta versions of Google Play Services and Gboard for Android users. You can easily sign up and get the beta versions which will allow you to try new features before they are released to the public. Of course by doing this you may encounter some errors but I have signed up for lots of beta apps from Google and never had an issue. If you do encounter an issue you can quickly remove yourself from beta testing and get a stable version installed anyway.
With the latest version of Gboard you will see that there is a redesigned theme picker section
and there is also a new section in the quick access bar that allows you to use Google Translate
When you select this your text is translated on the fly
The Google Play Services beta update should, in theory, give you quicker access to the Google Assistant update that is being pushed to non-Pixel Nougat and Marshmallow devices.
To gain access just click on the links below and then select "Become a tester"
